KEY BCSO SAR MEMBER RULES
All BCSO SAR Members – please note the following key rules. This is not an all inclusive list …
MEDIA/SOCIAL MEDIA
As a member of BCSO SAR, no information regarding BCSO operations or SAR searches will be released to any member of the news media, made public in any way or used for personal use of any kind. This includes postings on any form of social media (i.e. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.). Any contact with the news media regarding BCSO SAR needs to be authorized by the SAR Director or senior BCSO staff. Unauthorized release of information WILL result in BCSO SAR membership being revoked.
ATTENDANCE MEETINGS/EVENTS
An unexcused absence is when a member does not attend a posted BCSO SAR event and does not use the RSVP feature of the Team App.
Examples:
o Does not indicate in the RSVP they will not be attending and does not show up.
o Indicated they will attend and then not show up.
3 consecutive, unexcused absences from events may result in BCSO SAR membership being revoked.
NOTE: Team Meetings are mandatory events. If you miss a meeting, it is your responsibility to contact another member to see what was covered/passed on. All members are expected to attend a BCSO SAR monthly meeting (normally the 2nd Tuesday of the month) at least once a quarter (every 3 months). If you can’t do this then you risk having BCSO SAR membership revoked.
K-9 TEAMS: Our K-9 teams train weekly to maintain proficiency. Members working a SAR K-9 need to attend at least one training session a month. If this is not possible, they must make arrangements with the K-9 supervisor (Melissa Frye) to complete training requirements. A K-9 team that does not meet this monthly requirement is subject to being pulled from the K-9 availability roster.
LAW ENFORCEMENT CONTACTS
Report all contacts you have with a law enforcement agency regarding incidents you are involved in. This includes all instances where you assisted/were stopped/questioned, made an official report/complaint, etc. to BCSO or any other law enforcement agency.
For K9 handlers this also includes if you are called out to assist another law enforcement agency as an individual or as part of another civilian group.
Make the report as soon as possible after the contact or prior to providing assistance to another law enforcement agency. Reporting is easy … just call Bill at 850-896-3448. Failure to properly report contacts may result in membership being revoked.
